Gracy singh achieved world recognition with Oscar nominated film 'Lagaan' in 2001. led her to star opposite Aamir Khan in Ashutosh Gowariker's epic sports-drama Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, where she played a village belle. She was nominated in this role for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, IIFA award and Zee Cine awards.
Post Lagaan in 2004, Gracy Singh appeared in the movie Munnabhai M.B.B.S. opposite Sanjay dutt. She was widely appreciated for her acting prowess in the movie.
With a unique combination of star quality and a girl next door appeal, she seemed poised to be one of the top actresses in Bollywood. However, she could not follow up on these successes and has not really appeared in a hindi movie for last few years. So what is she up to now.
Gracy singh was born on 20th July, 1980 in Delhi in a Punjabi family. She was a born artist and a complete natural on screen. The beautiful talented actress from Delhi made Mumbai her base when she was selected for her role in the TV serial 'Amanat' in 1998. She actually played the role of Dinky aka Amrita in the show.
After Amanat, she was also seen in movies like Hu Tu Tu and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.
In 2001, Gracy singh was selected to star opposite Aamir Khan in Ashutosh Gowariker's epic sports-drama Lagaan where she played the role of a village girl. She was widely appreciated for her performance. After her path-breaking role, she appeared in a slew of big budget films. In the medical drama Armaan, she played the role of Dr Neha Mathur. In Gangajal, she starred opposite Ajay Devgn in the lead role. She also appeared in a Telugu film Santosham in 2002.
Post Lagaan in 2004, Gracy Singh appeared in the movie Munnabhai M.B.B.S. opposite Sanjay dutt and was widely appreciated for her acting prowess in the movie.
After Munnabhai MBBS, Gracy singh worked in a number of movies but none of those movies turned out to be very successful. She acted in movies like Shart: The Challenge, Yehi Hai Zindagi, The White Land, Deshdrohi, Loudspeaker, Rama Rama Krishna Krishna, Dangerous Ishq, Qayamat Hi Qayamat, Blue mountains and Samadhi.
Gracy singh had also given her voice in the Bollywood film chanchal. She has shown her versatility by acting in movies from several languages like hindi, telugu, Punjabi, malyalam, kannada, Marathi, gujarati and Bengal. However, her movie career did not prove to be very successful and in 2015, she returned to television, playing Goddess Santoshi in the series Santoshi Maa on &TV.
She believes that she should not make a comeback on the big screen just for the sake of working and should only take up something when she could do justice to the roles offered.
Since Gracy singh is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, she has actually taken her passion to the stage. She actually believes that classical dance performance is an artistic method of spiritual awakening. Through her movies and stage performances, she has continued her creative pursuits. Her live dance performances and stage shows also keep her extremely busy. Since, she has learnt three classical dance styles, she performs dance dramas along with her troupe.
