Description Academy Award winner Astor played the classic role for TV in the 50's opposite the great Darren McGavin as "Joe Gillis". Mary was great but one longs for the 'theatricality" of Gloria. McGavin, on the other hand, was the type of actor who could make a plot out of a phonebook. Here he is interesting but he doesn't convey the shame and embarassment that Holden did. McGavin always seemed the type that could handle anything that was throw his way. Tough as nails. He was underappreciated in a business that had talent like his in short supply.
