Description STORY: We are here at the Perfect Pint in Manhattan, New York, where local Irish and Guinness lovers have gathered to call on the US to make St Patrick's Day an official holiday. This is the second year that these campaigners have pushed Proposition 3-17 -- a movement to make St. Patrick's Day a national holiday. [Carson Daly, Talk Show Host]: "Ask most people in the United States if St. Patrick's Day is a holiday and they say, 'Yeah, of course it is.'” In Ireland celebrations last for five days -- with one official day off work, on March 17. [Caroline Murphy, Perfect Pint Staff]: "I would say it is probably the biggest holiday of the year. It's a day off work for everyone. But the main thing there is all the Irish people, they get to celebrate the fact of being Irish.” [John Connolly, Perfect Pint Co-owner]: "For Irish people it's definitely a religious holiday. St. Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland. Brought Christianity to Ireland in the year 432.” These campaigners have written to President Obama asking him to amend the official holiday calendar. Last year, about 350000 people signed their online petition. And this year the response has been even better -- almost 418000 have voted on their site. This is Christina Sammet, NTD, New York.
