Description Poncho is an 18-month-old, 50-pound, sable, male Shar Pei/Shepherd-mix looking for the perfect home. I first met Poncho when I was taking photos of adoptable dogs at Chicago Animal Care and Control on December 1, 2009. For some reason, this poor energetic boy had been overlooked by potential adopters. So, the Friends of CACC transferred him from a cage at the shelter, to the FCACC foster program. Poncho is dog-friendly, so he was sent to live at a doggie daycare center. He loves to play with other dogs, but it was obvious that Poncho had no formal training prior to landing at the shelter. So, "Friends" invested in Poncho's higher education, and enrolled him in the Mixed-Up-Mutts Prison Tails Program www.mixedupmutts.org The program matches up prison inmates with dogs in need of training. It's a win-win program, where both dog and offender learn about communication, leadership, patience, good grooming, and consistency. Poncho recently graduated with an AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate. He is now housebroken, crate-trained, and knows a bunch of commands. He is back in doggie daycare telling all the other canines about his old jailhouse days. Poncho is looking for a true dog-lover who has the time and energy to continue his training, and give him daily exercise. Because he's still a work in progress, he'd be best in a home with older children. To meet and possibly adopt Poncho please contact Brenda at bjlveggie@yahoo.com or 312-259-0077. Poncho is very healthy, neutered ...
