Description President Gül was welcomed by the National Defense Minister, Vecdi Gönül; the Turkish Armed Forces General Manager, Hayrettin Uzun; ASELSAN Board Chairman, Hasan Memişoğlu and ASELSAN General Manager, Cengiz Ergeneman, upon his arrival. Briefed about the facilities at the Research and Development Hall, he proceeded to his inspection of the ASELSAN Communication and Information Technologies Unit and the Department of Radar Electronic Warfare and Intelligence. The President there steered the thermal camera produced for the border units and the ZIPKIN, a pedestal mounted Stinger missile system. He was also informed about the ASELPOD, a targeting and navigation pod produced for F-16 war planes, allowing them to spot targets at very high altitudes. "WE ARE PRODUCING TECHNOLOGY" The defense industry is provided with the necessary highest advanced technology for the Navy, Air Force and the Army by ASELSAN in all areas today, the President proclaimed, saying: "There are 3850 staff members, 2200 of whom are engineers within the body of this institution which produces technology in the best way. This is how we wish to see Turkey, a country that takes its place in the international arena with the high technology it transfers to other countries, technology which it has designed and produced itself."
