Description BALCONYTV.COM 9/10/01/2007 PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN The HELLFIRE Club is a Dublin based four-piece. Formed as an ABBA tribute, the band gained a large following initially doing the Cavan circuit and later on Capel Street. Unfortunately Jane's inability to wear blond wigs on account of her complexion, Delo's offensive and often childish dyslexia induced interpretations of ABBA lyrics, Andy's homophobia and Kate's hysterical xenophobia (particularly towards Swedes) greatly diminished the bands fan base. The band agreed a major reappraisal was necessary. The name The HELLFIRE Club was the only element retained from the previous format. The 17th century club, of which ABBA were avid followers, renowned for their Satan worship, hard drinking and extravagant clothing provided the inspiration for the band's new direction. Jane's unique subject matters and timing combined with a classical/gypsy overtone and Delo's musical illiteracy is currently proving more popular than Fernando or the Dancing Queen.
