Description Jay Jay Records #152-B WOPA was a radio station located on the top floor of the Oak Park Arms Hotel, in Oak Park, Illinois. The station went on the air as WEBS in 1951 with an ethnic brokered format and soon switched its calls to WOPA, reflecting the name of the hotel where the studios and transmitter were located. The programming on 1490 AM was predominantly Polish, but there were also programs in Italian, German, Lithuanian, Spanish, Gaelic, and other languages. In 1985, the calls changed to WBMX ("Black Music X-perience"). When the Polish National Alliance bought the station in 1987, the calls became WPNA. WPNA still broadcasts an ethnic brokered format at 1490 AM from the same location today. Walter Edward Jagiello (1930-2006), known professionally as Li'l Wally, was "Chicago's Polka King" during the 1950s and 1960s. He founded his own record label - Jay Jay Records - in 1951, and ran the company for over 30 years, publishing hundreds of albums and singles. This one is a tribute to the old WOPA where Li'l Wally hosted a polka show from 1951 to 1961.
